  • RED GALLERY 1-3 Rivington Street London, England, EC2A 3DT United Kingdom (map)

S.I.R. Is a performance art collective from Goldsmiths, Central St. Martins, and Brighton.

It is an experience of different materials and the body. It is playing with ways of looking into the performance itself or in other words performative things within fine art background.

Performances Schedule

13.00 - 13.30 Fado, Mariana Lemos

Performance and installation. Fado is fate, are a permanent irreparable loss and lifelong damage. It has mournful eyes, melancholic soul, and a longing heart. It talks about the sea and the life of poor.

14.00 - 15.00 Cocoon, Maisie Maris

‘The Cocoon’ is an exploration into how materials respond to the body through the means of performance. This piece also looks into how a material can embody the structural and delicate qualities of skin, or in this case a second skin. The surrounding latex structure that provides a temporary living space for the performer, explores the habitual nature of nests and webs, and shrouds the transformation process, much like that of a cocoon.

15.15 - 15.45 The Meeting, Nayu Kim

The artist invites a small group of people who believe they are aliens or in abduction theory generally. The conversation and actions will be part of a set of gestures instructed by the artist.

They will meet in the café, the bird and the Ballard, everyone is invited to join!

16.00 - 16.20 Encoding, Roberta Vaz

A strict rhythm pattern played on a typewriter translates into a movement code and a typing code. The same structure results in a different performance and print for each "player". Performed by Roberta Vaz and Lorraine Smith.

17.00 - 17.30 Ghost Cities, Poppy Tibbetts

Ghost Cities depicts a fictional metropolis, which due to a real-estate bubble has remained empty since being built, and is beginning to fall into ruins. The city becomes an allegory for how utopian societal ideals can quickly become dystopian disasters. The performance explores the evocative nature of ruins and fallen cities, presenting the deserted city as a liminal space, a threshold to both past and future.

18.00 - 18.50 Two Utilities For Rope, Roberta Vaz

19.00 - 19.30 Hybrid Violin, Laura Mallows

Hybrid Violin explores and critiques the role of the solo violinist. The sounds and movements are documented by the transferred gestural marks of a hybrid violin (a traditional violin, with attached paintbrushes) that comes into contact with the surroundings as it is played. The music, which is improvised, is affected and disjointed by its contact with the environment, creating an unpredictable composition.

It is an experiment that turns an experience into an improvisation and through the medium then becomes visually represented. The emotion from the improvisation transcends the imagery; moving from three dimensions to two dimensions and back again. The abstract marks made on the environment leave an illustration of the happening - depicting the ephemeral nature of both the sound and performance.

20.00 - 20.30 Broken Unities, Tomofumi Yamasaki and Veronica Bruce (sound by Victor Fischl)

A performance of the interdisciplinary practices including dance, installation, live video, and sound.

The result is a spatial production that incorporates the idea of indeterminacy of human form and realities performed in an illusionary constructed pattern of thoughts and actions.

Taking place in urban cities, it brings out the dislocation of our locations, exploring the use of space as a performative act that constitutes and reveals the mythic belief of ideological and physical positions in which we stand. Using live feeds we investigate the collapsed use of technology, exploring new territories that illuminate the every day and the trained body. The body is another operator that connects like machines, that are infinitely coupled. Do we experience our bodies as synthetic wholes or do we merely witness parts of our bodies?

All day Plinths, Nayu Kim

A group of people will perform throughout the day outside of the gallery space. The performers will behave either normally or give representations of bizarre preconceived characters. The audience/public may not be aware that a performance is going on unless they see the group performing in the car park or inside of the gallery later on.
