Thurston Moore, founder of seminal experimental rock group Sonic Youth and his own Thurston Moore Group returns to the fore with his latest album: Rock n Roll Consciousness. Via this most recent offering, Moore continues to expand his remit as an accomplished multi-dimensional creative entity, whilst also bringing on close colleagues Deb Googe (bassist, My Bloody Valentine), Steve Shelley (drummer, Sonic Youth, Sun Kil Moon) and James Sedwards (Nøught) for the ride.

On the occasion of the release of Rock n Roll Consciousness, Moore will doing an exclusive album launch party and concert with his Group at Red Gallery/Kamio, Shoreditch on Friday, April 28th — a special opportunity to explore Moore's latest work live, intimately and immediately.

Accompanying this essential album launch and concert will be an exhibition with works by Moore and others. Red Gallery have given the legendary American musician carte blanche to assemble a selection of drawings and collages to be shown to the public between 20-28th April.

For this exhibition, Moore deploys a collage technique with compelling results in a series of personal and urban daydreams. Material for the pieces are culled from his own archives that have been inspired by the underground luminaries with whom he's crossed paths over the last forty years, such as Mayhem, Yoko Ono, Raymond Pettibon and Patti Smith.

"I am basing the work on exercises I did as a teenager cutting out pictures from magazines like Rock Scene, Creem, and Circus and collaging them as an obsessive diarist. Doing this work now, utilizing some kind of punk mood board where I can actually drop myself and other referential into the pieces allows me to create an ongoing open-heart bio-historagophy."

Screaming fields of disjointed imagery and deeply saturated colours collide and overlap, yielding tales from the pulp crypt of the Underground. Aesthetically composed of an enduring zeitgeist, these meshed up tapestries come to us tampers, warped and adulterated in the best way possible. Rarely do musicians translate their Sonic talents so fittingly and so refreshingly into the domain of visual art.
